Second Annual Discover Run

CIU signee wins 5k

CIU and Coach Brooker hosted the Second Annual Discover CIU Race Saturday morning, February 2nd at 9 am. A small crowd braved the cold to run through the trails and compete in either the 5k or 10k races.

CIU cross country recruit Garrett Searcy ran away with the 5k race, winning by almost 2 minutes with a 20:32. Last years 5k champion Gary McAlister won the 10k with a time of 43:14 beating out CIU Admissions Counselor Alan Lovell who was second in 46:11.

On the women's side Irmo High School senior Janay Chisolm won the 5k with a time of 23:45 with CIU recruit Alexis Zwilling coming in 2nd with a 24:58. The women's 10k was won by Colleen Vowles with a time of 52:07.

The course is historically very slow with many hills and winding trails. Although the turn out was small Coach Brooker was very pleased with how the race went, "many of the competitors were very complimentary of our volunteers scattered throughout the course. They also were very complimentary of Luke Fain who spent numerous hours on the trails to prepare for the race." Full results are available on the SC.milesplit website. To view the results click here.
