Cross Country Teams Shine in the Classroom as well as the Course

Both men's and women's cross country teams garner NCCAA Scholar Team Award
Both the CIU men's and women's cross country teams were honored with NCCAA Scholar Team accolades for the 2013 fall semester. The NCCAA honors teams that have an average team GPA above 3.4 for the semester while in season. Out of all the NCCAA schools participating in fall sports (cross country, soccer, and golf), only 35 teams nationally were able to meet the 3.4 team GPA criteria.
The men’s cross country team had the 5th highest average team GPA nationally across the 6 sports. This was the second year in a row that both the men’s and women’s team were honored with the Scholar Team Award, a great way to start the cross country program here at CIU.
“I am very proud of both our men’s and women’s for keeping academics as a high priority while still competing at a high level. For the men to have the 5th highest team GPA in the nation for the fall semester shows great character and drive at keeping academics above running. We improved greatly on the course as well as in the classroom,” stated Coach Brooker.
