CIU Women Have Strong Showing at Eye Opener

The Rams showed great courage in their first meet

Let's Go Rams!
The CIU women's cross country team had a great first meet at the Eye Opener this weekend. The women were lead by Annelise Arnold who had a strong 50th place finish out of 195 runners with a time of 22:04 for the 5k (3.1 mile) course. Annelise went out tough with a 6:25 first mile and hung on to run close to her PR (personal record) in the 5k. Dianna Gentry and Raena Hannink ran together throughout the entire race running 24:55 and 25:07 for their first races at CIU Rams. Laurel Dorman just dipped under the 27 minute mark with a 26:58 while Linda Swier ran 30:25 to round out the top 5. Lexi Woodward ran 31:19, Emma Sievert ran 32:02 and Alex Hackler went 33:08 to round out the Rams team which placed 20th out of 23 teams.

The women were without two of their top runners in Laura Paisley and Melissa Turlington, who were held out because of injury. Coach Brooker expects them back, to help strengthen the team, very shortly.

Coach Brooker was very proud of how the team battled through a tough early pace and the heat and humidity to ran great times and put CIU on the map. The Rams will next travel to Montreat College were they are expected to do very well in the 8 team Invitational.
