Luke Brooks Solid Play in Goal Earns Him NCCAA Honors
After another solid week in goal for the Rams senior goalkeeper Luke Brooks was honored by the NCCAA as the Division I Men's Soccer Defensive Student-Athlete of the week. Brooks helped lead the Rams to a win this past Monday against Trinity Baptist College as he had eight saves and shutout the Eagles to give the Rams their second win of the season. He had another solid game this past Saturday as he faced numerous shots from the Grizzlies of Georgia Gwinnett College. The Rams lost the game 1-0, but Brooks came up with a number of keys saves to keep the Rams in the match and give his team a chance to pull out a win.
Just this past week Brooks had 14 saves and only allowed the one goal. On the season Brooks has played in all 360 minutes for the Rams, amassed 18 saves, two shutouts, and has only allowed four goals all season.
Coach James Whitaker had this to say on Luke's performance, "Luke has had an outstanding start to the season and has come up with a number of great saves. He is playing with a lot of confidence and leading our team well in the back. His confidence has translated to the team as he has had a positive impact on them and has giving them an extra boost of confidence."
The Rams will be away this Saturday in Greensboro, NC as they look to pick up a win against Laurel College. The Rams will have their first home game on Wednesday September 14 as they host St. Andrews University at 7:00 p.m.
